An old house near the famous deserted town of KAYAKÖY has been converted to serve as an unusual wine cellar and restaurant. The Kaya Wine House is one of eldest Stone building at Kayavillage.Fethiye’s best-kept secrets,but the word is getting out.Tucked just in from the main road at the deserted town of Kayaköy(KARMYLASSOS),the exterior of the renovated old stone house exudes a certain charm, but provides few clues to the delightful atmosphere within. The ground floor accomadates the wine cellar,surrounded and protected by all that natur stones.The wines are mostly supplied by small private producers,whom the proprietors know personally,and frequently visit in their own cellars.Turkish country fruit wines derived from the choice fruits of the Aegean region rub shoulders with limited editions house wines and Çalkarası,Boğazkere, or Öküzgözü grapes. Outside, a generous courtyard provides a relaxing setting for cosy barbecue evenings. Most attractive of all,however,are the two separate upper-floor studio cottages,each with their own fireplaces,bathrooms and kitchens.The original wooden interiors have been tastefully furnished in traditional style with sofas,rugs and cushions. Here unique intimate meals for guests are provided by reservation only. Meat ans fish dishes,homely pots and oven roasts are served with range of hors d’oeuvre (Meze) and a dash of the local herbs which the Greeks and Turks of the region have discovered over the centuries.But the lamb is undoubtedly the specialite de la maison.
