Cortijo de la Luz is located in one of the sunniest areas of Spain, 450 metres above sea level in the breathtaking Alpujarras Mountains, part of the Sierra Nevada range of Southern Spain. Built in traditional Alpujarran style, for self-catering, with 2 bedrooms, one double, one twin, you will find that each room of our casita is uniquely and beautifully furnished and decorated (when people arrive they often say the pictures dont do justice to the beuaty of the place). Outside you’ll find yourself in a sheltered, peaceful corner, within a beautiful, organic garden of exotic, perfumed tropical flowering shrubs and trees, etc., with olive and orange trees beyond, all watered by the springs and melting snows of the high mountains. The place is alive with all manner of insects (non-invasive), bees, butterflies and a mixture of African, Northern and Southern European birds. Wild flowers are most notable in spring and early summer. At night there are crickets, owls and frolicking frogs! The amazingly clear, night-time sky leaves one utterly mesmerised. Enjoy breakfast and the morning sunshine on the patio. View the dramatic mountains to the east and the south and the mountains of the north, snow clad in winter, spring and early summer. Soak up the peacefulness of this place, sunbathe, read, paint, meditate, walk, climb, enjoy the swimming pool near the casita, exclusively yours for your holiday, eat and drink, go fishing, horse riding; rejuvenate and see life anew. You will find us barely two minutes off the road, up and along a track and easily entering into our own private car park.
Here you will enjoy yourselves and return home deeply refreshed.
The very Spanish town of Orgiva attracts people from all over Europe, probably partly due to Chris Stewart and his books about the area, Driving over Lemons and Parrot in a Pepper Tree. It‘s just a few minutes drive away, a pleasant 15 – 20 minutes walk. Most facilities are to be found there, including cafes, bars, restaurants, banks, shops, pharmacies and small supermarkets. A big weekly market takes place on Thursday mornings. Such is the increasing demand for honest food these days, that there are two good health shops here and a biological association in the new market place supplying organic fresh foods.Within twenty minutes drive in the direction of Granada and the famous Alhambra Palace, one can easily reach the neighbouring town of Lanjaron, which features healing spa bathing. Leaving Orgiva in the same direction, but soon turning off right, a half hour’s drive brings one to the three fascinating and very popular (especially with walkers) mountain villages of Pampaneira, Bubion and Capileira, reaching over 1,300mtrs in height. Each of these villages is well endowed with shops, bars, cafes and restaurants.
In the winter and spring you can often drive, through dramatic scenery, right up to the snow !
